Police in Alice Springs have recovered key evidence as the search continues for missing five-year-old Sharon Granites, who vanished from her home over the weekend.

The child is believed to have been taken from Old Timers Camp on April 25. Her grandmother, Karen White, made an emotional appeal, asking the young girl to return home safely.

Authorities suspect Jefferson Lewis, a 47-year-old man who was reportedly present at the residence at the time of the disappearance. Police say he was seen leaving the location with the child late that night.

Investigators confirmed that several items were collected from the scene, including clothing and other materials now undergoing forensic testing. Officials say the results may help determine whether the child was harmed.

Assistant Commissioner Peter Malley stated that the investigation has faced challenges, including contamination of the scene and limited cooperation from some individuals in the area.

Police believe the suspect may still be nearby but say locating him has been difficult due to the absence of a digital trail, as he reportedly does not use common services such as phones or bank accounts.

Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward, warning that withholding details could hinder efforts to locate the child.

Despite the time that has passed, investigators remain hopeful that Sharon is still alive. Search teams are working with experts while covering both urban and bushland areas around the community.

The operation has expanded significantly, with more than 100 volunteers assisting police and emergency responders. Ground teams are combing through difficult terrain, while helicopters and drones are scanning wider areas.

Additional support has been brought in from other regions, as the case has been classified as a major investigation.
