A PBS Kansas employee has died after being shot outside her home, with her estranged husband now facing a murder charge.

A tragic incident has left a community in shock after a young PBS employee was shot and killed outside her home in what authorities believe to be a domestic violence-related case.

The victim, 25-year-old Ivy Unruh, worked as a broadcast engineer for PBS Kansas and was also a U.S. Marine veteran. She was reportedly shot outside her apartment in Wichita during the morning hours and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Despite efforts to save her, she died a few days later from her injuries.

Police say her estranged husband, 29-year-old Joshua Orlando, was taken into custody at the scene. He initially faced charges of aggravated battery, but those charges were later upgraded to first-degree murder following her death.

Authorities revealed that Orlando himself called emergency services after the shooting, and a firearm was recovered at the scene. Investigators have described the case as a domestic violence-related homicide, noting that the couple had been separated at the time of the incident.

Friends, colleagues, and loved ones have since paid tribute to Unruh, describing her as dedicated, hardworking, and deeply respected by those who knew her. Her background in military communications and engineering made her a valued member of the PBS Kansas team.

The heartbreaking case has once again raised concerns about the dangers of domestic violence, especially in situations involving separation or ongoing relationship conflicts.

Authorities say investigations are still ongoing as the legal process continues.
